The art of Pisa and the Valdera

Program

Day 1:
Arrive independently in the city of Pisa and settle in the hotel. Check-in will not be until 2 p.m., but you can safely leave your luggage at the hotel storage room.
You will have the opportunity to browse the city, unearthing its hidden corners and rare beauties.
Free lunch, then you will have a guided tour of the city with our guide.

This tour will be entirely dedicated to art, so there will be two key stops that will be immediately ticked off: the "Tuttomondo" mural by Keith Haring and Eduardo Kobra's new mural dedicated to Galileo Galilei.
Tuttomondo is a veritable explosion of colors, meant to convey harmony and peace in the world, visible through the connections and joints between the figures that, like a puzzle, populate the one hundred and eighty square meters of the wall.
Kobra, on the other hand, depicted the Pisa-born father of science Galileo Galilei observing the universe through the Leaning Tower, which serves as a telescope, thus capturing the essence and history of his hometown.

Crossing the Arno River and walking along the Lungarni, you will arrive in Borgo Stretto, the medieval part of Pisa, lined with historic buildings and stores.

You will then continue to Piazza dei Cavalieri, a renowned medieval square surrounded by historic buildings of outstanding historical and architectural importance, home to the prestigious Scuola Normale Superiore, the Palazzo dell'Orologio, the majestic Church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri and the equestrian statue in the center representing Cosimo I de' Medici.

The tour will end in the iconic Piazza dei Miracoli, where the guide will explain the 4 monuments of insurmountable architectural and artistic value, such as the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Camposanto and the Campanile, known as the Leaning Tower, defined as "miracles" by Gabriele D'Annunzio for their beauty and originality.

In the evening, dinner in one of the local restaurants with a menu of typical dishes related to the Pisan culinary tradition and good wine. Overnight stay at the hotel will follow.

Day 2:
After breakfast at the hotel, your destination will be Valdera, known worldwide for its villages and hills.
By private transfer, you will be driven to Lajatico, birthplace of the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.
Here you will be met by your guide who will assist you for the entire day to discover this magnificent area.
Lajatico is a picturesque town known for its rustic character closely linked to music and art.
In addition to its natural beauty, you will have the opportunity to visit the Teatro del Silenzio, an open-air amphitheater populated by "Artinsolite" contemporary art installations scattered throughout the surrounding landscape, and which hosts the annual tenor concert under the magnificent starry sky.
For lunch, the Officine Bocelli restaurant awaits you, whose revisited dishes, contextualized in a chic, modern setting, will make your experience unique.

After lunch, you will be greeted by the small village of Peccioli, a real gem.
Here you will have the opportunity to visit the Palazzo senza Tempo and its many temporary and permanent exhibitions, featuring a large panoramic terrace overlooking the valley, to be enjoyed with a good coffee from the cafeteria inside.
Don't miss artist Patrick Tuttofuoco's Endless Sunset, the footbridge that connects Peccioli's historic center to the new part of town, surrounded by a chromatic spiral that reflects the colors of the sun, creating a truly unique play of colors.

Before returning to Pisa, there is one last stop: Ghizzano.
Known for its tranquility and traditional charm, the village is renowned for "the colored houses" in Via di Mezzo. This is a work of art, created by David Tremlett, whose dominant color on the facades of the houses is green, along with shades of the colors of the land and the Pisan hills.
Just as in Peccioli, artist Patrick Tuttofuoco is one of those who has made Ghizzano a village with a strong identity.
We also find Alicja Kwade's "Solid sky," a block of stone from South America particular for its blue veins, polished to a perfectly smooth sphere.

This day comes to an end. The transfer will take you back to Pisa, where dinner in a restaurant and an overnight stay awaits.
