Program

You will have free time at leisure to start discovering the city.

Pisa is an ancient city with roots dating back to Roman times, but it has become particularly well known for its extraordinary architectural heritage. The heart of Pisa is the Piazza dei Miracoli or Piazza del Duomo, home to some of the most recognizable monuments in the world.
In addition to the main monuments, it also boasts historic universities, fascinating museums and a vibrant urban environment. The city is situated along the Arno River, giving it a unique charm. Today it is an important cultural and tourist center attracting visitors from all over the world.

Free lunch and Piazza dei Miracoli awaits!

Our guide will take you to contemplate and admire the four extraordinary monuments of the iconic square to discover their secrets and history. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the interior of the Cathedral and the Monumental Cemetery.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, commonly known as the Duomo of Pisa, is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. Built of white marble between the 11th and 12th centuries, the facade features a series of columns and arches, while the interior is decorated with frescoes, sculptures and works of art of great historical and artistic value. The Cathedral also houses the famous pulpit by Giovanni Pisano and the monumental high altar.

The Baptistery of San Giovanni is one of the oldest buildings in Pisa and dates back to the 12th century. It is known for its circular structure and magnificent acoustics. The facade features columns, arches and sculptures, including a statue of St. John the Baptist on the dome. Inside, you will find a bronze baptismal pile, made by artists such as Guido Bigarelli and Giambologna.

Both of these buildings are an integral part of the Piazza dei Miracoli, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The combination of outstanding architecture and historical importance makes it of the most visited places in Italy.

After visiting these two sites, passing through Piazza dei Cavalieri and continuing along Via Santa Maria, you will arrive at the Museum of Ancient Ships.

The Ancient Ships of Pisa exhibition takes place within the halls and bays of the Medicean Arsenals of Pisa, on the Pisan riverfront, and is divided into eight sections.
It houses fundamental evidence of Pisa's maritime history, including, of course, the great Roman ships.
The Arsenals came into being at the behest of Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici, who wished to consolidate his naval power and resurrect the ancient glories of the Pisan Maritime Republic.
For this purpose he not only had the Arsenals built, but also founded the Order of the Knights of St. Stephen, a military order closely linked to the sea, created "in pendant" with the new Arsenals. The latter were to counter Saracen expansion in the Mediterranean, as well as to protect the trade routes, which were plagued by the danger of Turkish pirates.
In the centuries to come, the Arsenals were converted into cavalry barracks, complete to this day with the troughs and gates.
The museum is thus a place rich in history, which today is charged with new meaning. It is a place that represents Pisa's long connection with shipping, thanks to the exhibits, but also because of the building itself, a symbol of the Grand Duke's desire to revive the Pisa of the Maritime Republic.

In the evening, dinner awaits you in one of the city's typical restaurants, which will delight your palate with numerous dishes related to the Pisan culinary tradition, accompanied by good wine.
Followed by an overnight stay at the hotel.
