Program details

The historic center is surrounded by a 7-kilometer (about 4.5-mile) city wall built in the 12th century. Inside, the city has 4 main districts divided by the Arno River and the main pedestrian shopping street.

From Piazza dei Miracoli, where the Leaning Tower is located, you begin your guided walk through Via Santa Maria, overlooked by medieval towers and Renaissance palaces.

A few meters from the Tower is also one of the oldest botanical gardens. You will visit Piazza Dei Cavalieri, designed by architect Giorgio Vasari in the 16th century, which now houses the Scuola Normale Superiore, formerly the Palazzo degli Anziani and now one of the most prestigious universities in the world, the Palazzo dell'Orologio and the majestic Church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri.

Busy alleys will lead you to the heart of the university area and the colorful markets.

Passing the house of Galileo Galilei, who was born in Pisa, you will arrive at the Arno River: beautiful palaces, the small church of Santa Maria Della Spina and museums...
You will cross the river and visit the old Arab quarter, once called "Kinzica."

The end of the tour will be in front of the mural "Tuttomondo" by Keith Haring, the street artist who came to Pisa in 1989 to give us this explosion of colors.
